Once again, I’m a bit late with this post.  Last week I met up with Julie (also known as tangobaby on Flickr) for a lunch photowalk.  She lead the way through the streets to see the remaining walrus statues and up to the top floor of the Hilton along the Embarcadero.  I had a great time and look forward to walking with Julie again in the near future.

I’m a bit late with this weeks picture, but better late then never, right?

As I wandered down Market street, I made a stop at this escalator that headed down to the Embarcadero BART station.  I spent quite a bit of time sitting there taking pictures (69 to be exact).  I had a vision for the picture I wanted and this is the one that came as close to it from the set.  You can see a few other final results here and here if you are interest.

Neighborhood: Financial District

Again, I’m struggling to get out and take pictures due to long hours at work.  I’m thinking about changing the project up a bit where I won’t restrict myself to the same neighborhood 4 weeks straight, however, at this point, I’m sticking with the plan and trying to power through.

This picture was inspired by the struggling times we are going through.  Shops are closing all over the place and friends are being laid off.  Businesses that are able to make the necessary adjustments will survive and I hope we see improvements soon.  If you have been effected in anyway by the economic slump, I wish you the best and hope you can find the positive in these situations.

I was planning on writing up a seperate post about the photowalk I went on at the beginning of the week, but my extra time these days has been extremely limited.  The photowalk was a great time and I met a few new San Francisco photographers including Michael Dunn, Jon Bauer, and Shelah.

I decided to turn this walk into my next entry for my 52 Week Project which means the next 4 weeks will be coming from the Financial District.  I’ve spend quit a bit of time in the Financial District, but usually by the end of the day, I’m itching to get out and get home.  Perhaps over the next few weeks I will stick around a bit longer and discover some new interesting photo spots.

I realize I just posted a picture of similar robots, but I made another visit to Z. Cioccolato and thought it would work well for this project.  After all, how can you not look at this picture and not say, “Ahhhh…” right?

Okay, I got a bit behind.  I had a slight cold last week which kept me from doing anything other than eat, work and sleep.  But, I had a chance to wander around North Beach a bit today, so here is my photo for the missed week.

I did not get much time out with the camera this week. To be accurate, I only got out one evening and even then, I was only out for about an hour, so I tried to make the most of it.

Week: 1/52 – Neighborhood: North Beach – Title: Another Night, Another Meal

I met up with Ricky Montalvo to kick off my 2009 52 Week Project: My Surrounding Neighborhoods.  We walked up and down Columbus and all around the Broadway/Columbus area.  It was a great first outing and I’m really looking forward to the next 51 weeks.

For 2009, we came to the conclusion that we would discover and photograph our surrounding neighborhood(s). So, without further ado, I introduce to you the Photography Project for 2009 – 52 Weeks: My Surrounding Neighborhood(s)

My specific goals for the project will be to visit one neighborhood within San Francisco for 4 weeks straight. At the end of the 52 weeks, I will have published 4 images of 13 different San Francisco neighborhoods. Ideally each image will represent the neighborhood I am shooting, however the image can be of any subject within the specific neighborhood with no specific guidelines.

You can follow those involved with the project and I encourage anyone who is interested to join in as well via Tumblr and/or Flickr. I will also be sharing my weekly submissions here at Korn on the Blog.

It’s going to be a great year for photography in 2009!

This morning on my commute to work, I was reading through Google Reader and came across Damien Franco’s post over at Your Photo Tips…“Start A New Personal Photography Project.” I realized, in the 13+ years I have been using an SLR camera (of the film or digital nature), I have never done a personal photography project.  (Just remembered that I started the BW$P project, but that is an ongoing, never ending project, so it does not count.)  I typically take my camera wherever I go and shoot what I see or go on specific photowalks, but never have I started a photography project.  Perhaps I could sort through all of my images put a project together after the fact, but I think it’s about time I have a photography project in mind.

So, over the next few weeks, I’m going to be thinking about what that project is to be.  I figured, if I write about it and make it official, I will have to stick with it.

Here are my intial thoughts:

1. 100 Prints – I would LOVE to do this project, but I don’t think I have the discipline right now to see it through to the end.
2. My World/Your World – I’m not sure what the exact project would be yet, but I’m interested to hear from others and see if you are interested.  If so, leave a comment or contact me and we’ll be in touch.
3. 52 Project – If I don’t hear from anyone to collaborate with, I’ll probably do my own 52 project.  Here are some initial thoughts…
   • I live in an amazing city that have not explored nearly enough.  I am thinking I’ll pick a new San Francisco neighborhood each month and visit it each week.  Since there are more then 12 neighborhoods in San Francisco, I’ll either pick 12 neighborhoods at random, or I’ll let the project run over a few weeks.
   • The people in San Francisco range from strange to rich to down right bizarre.  Over the years I have become more and more interested in people and taking photographs of people, however, I am a bit on the shy side and do not like approaching people and asking for their pictures.  Well, the best way to get over your fears is by facing them and that is exactly what I would intend to do.  For 52 weeks, find one new person each week to photograph (outside of my BW$P Project).

If you have any suggestions, thoughts, ideas, or want to collaborate on a project, let me know.  I’d also be interested in hearing what projects other people are planning on doing in 2009, so don’t be shy and share them in the comments.
