Pete – BW$P

Pete by Justin Korn

Meet Pete.

As I walked home from the Papyrus Store, I came across Pete sitting in a wheelchair asking very quietly for change.  He asked so quietly, I wasn’t even sure he was asking for change and had to ask him what he said.  He repeated, “Got any change?”  I told him about my project and he said, “Sure, I’ll let you take my picture for a dollar.”

As I took my camera out and got ready, I found out Pete has lived in San Francisco since 1973.  He made sure to mention that he currently lives near Haight/Ashbury and that he was around for the 1986 earthquake.  I asked what he did when he felt the earthquake hit.  He told me he moved to Nob Hill for a few days.  Pete was not every talkative but seemed to enjoy the attention as I took a few pictures of him.

After I handed him his promised dollar, he said thank you, shook my hand, and I was on my way.
