My Birthday At The Happiest Place On Earth

Disneyland by Justin KornIf you follow me on FriendFeed, Twitter or are a friend of mine on Facebook, you are probably already aware that I made a trip down to Anaheim, California this past weekend to visit the “happiest place on earth” — Disneyland.  I specifically made the trip down there to take advantage of their current birthday promotion — Free Admission On Your Birthday! To top it off, Allison, my special lady friend, has the same birthday as I do.  So, we took full advantage and spent our entire birthday at Disneyland…and it was amazing.

First off, as we left San Francisco on Virgin America, I decided to push my luck and ask if we could get bumped or upgraded since it was our birthdays.  The lady behind the counter said she couldn’t do it for free, but she could give me a drink coupon.  I was ready to happily accept that, but then she asked my name.  She looked at her computer and before I knew it, she bumped us to priority seating (exit row).  When flying Virgin, these seats cost an extra $25, but with it, you get free movies, premium TV, and alcoholic drinks (if you choose to indulge).  The hour flight flew by as I watched a few premium TV episodes and sipped on my vodka sprite.

Me with GoofyThe next day, Allison and I took advantage of the new FastPass system Disney has in place.  I’m actually not so sure it’s new anymore, but it was for both of us and it was awesome!  We immediately made our way over to Space Mountain, grabbed our FastPass for 2:05pm (I couldn’t believe it was already up to 2pm) and then stood in a 20min line for the Matterhorn Bobsled ride.  After that, we moved over the Pirates of the Caribbean, followed by the Haunted Mansion and then Jungle Cruise.  At this time, we were able to pick up another FastPass, so we ran over to Big Thunder Railroad, and picked up that FastPass.  From there, we headed over to Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and spun ourselves around until we thought we were going to puke.  Afterward, we decided it was time for a small snack before grabbing our FastPass for Indian Jones and then riding the Big Thunder Railroad.  From Big Thunder Railroad, we hopped back over to Space Mountain for our time slot and enjoyed one of the best rides still to this day.  At this point, we settled down for a relaxing lunch before heading to Star Tours, Astro Blaster (based on BuzzLight Year from Toy Story), and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.  After all of that, our time slot of Indiana had finally arrived, but before we headed over there, we climbed Trazan’s tree house just for the giggles.  After Indiana Jones, we finally decided to take a break and left the park for a few beers by the pool at our hotel.  We then returned to Downtown Disney for a lovely Italian dinner and enjoyed the fireworks from our table with a glass of wine in hand.  With the bill paid, we made our way back into the park to try and catch the Fantasimica light and water show.  Unfortunately, it was complete packed and crowded by the time we got there, so instead, we decided to end our evening on a high note and waited in line for a second spin on Space Mountain.  It was, once again, amazing.  On the way out from the park, I decided to pick-up one last churro, number three of the day.

After sleeping in the next morning, we headed over to the Disney Hotel for brunch at the Goofy Diner.  I was a bit skeptical at first, but this place was insanely amazing.  The food was good and the service was top notch.  Unfortunately, we were a bit rushed since we had to make our way back to the airport to head back home.

As you can probably imagine, it was an amazing way to spend my birthday.  I hope you enjoyed me sharing it with you!

Till next time…
